Our Events

Every year Charity Akita holds a variety of events, typically surrounding holidays, as a way for the community to get together and have fun and make connections! They vary in size and type so there’s always something for someone.

Unfortunately, with the effects of the covid pandemic still lingering, the capacity to hold such events may be affected.

Febuary – Appi Ski Trip

In February, Charity Akita helps organise the accommodation for an annual overnight ski trip to the Appi Kogen area! We stay at Pension Mutti, and spots are limited! Your stay at Pension Mutti includes accommodation as well as an excellent dinner and breakfast. There are also some discounts on the gear and lift passes!

April/May – Beach Cleanup

As it starts warming up, Charity Akita organises a group of volunteers to go and do a beach clean up! Not only does it help the environment, but it also shows support for the local community by making the area clean and safe. This event tends to be located on the beaches of Yurihonjo City.

June- International Sumo Tournament

This is Charity Akita’s biggest event! People come from near and far for this annual battle! We welcome wrestlers of every shape, size, and experience level.  It is a good opportunity to try out sumo and try your luck at winning the championship! There is a men’s and women’s division and we also provide basic lessons in the rules of sumo!

July – Farewell Party

To send off our departing JETs, Charity Akita hosts a beach party for one last hoorah! We come together to celebrate all of our friends and the memories we’ve made before they leave Akita!

August – Welcome Party

To welcome the new, fresh-off-the-plane JETs, Charity Akita organises either a sushi party after the SDC meeting or, depending on the current covid regulations, a welcome beach party! It’s a good chance to get to know other new JETs as well as get advice from your new senpais.

October – Halloween Party

The spookiest kind of event that we host! We hold a party at a local venue and dress up in our Sunday worsts! Unfortunately, with the current situation with the covid pandemic, this event has been temporarily put on a hiatus.

November – Thanksgiving Potluck

A gathering to celebrate what we are grateful for from the year! Nothing beats a warm meal and good company while reflecting on the year past and what’s to come!

December – Christmas Carolling

Do you like Christmas songs? How about raising money for a good cause?
You’re in luck! Join us for an afternoon filled with song and joy while raising funds for a local charity!
